Cosmetics and Cooking

Okay, lady chefs. I find that there is a serious lack of discussion about hair/makeup/beauty products for women chefs. I mean, it’s winter in Michigan and I need a solid skin routine to not turn into a reptile.

The kitchen is a hot and chaotic place and I needed to investigate a routine that would hold up to this. I like makeup. Not tons of it, but I have a few go-to items that I like to wear every day.

I’ve tested out lots of different foundations, mascara, chapstick/gloss, eye pencils, hair products, etc. Here’s the dish on some of the best that stand up to heat, splashing grease, beads of sweat, taste testing, and everything in between.

Foundation: Revlon Colorstay. This foundation is my JAM. I’ve used everything from powders to liquid foundation and this one is by far my favorite. It’s incredibly easy to apply, blends well, and holds up well all day long. It also does not clog pores and the combination style helps fight shine all day.

Moisturizer: CeraVe. This is another great product that gives you the moisture you need without feeling heavy/greasy. It also gives you a nice smooth base to apply your foundation. I have really sensitive skin and this stuff is completely non-irritating.

Mascara: Great Lash Waterproof. I’ve always been a fan of Great Lash and upgraded to the waterproof version when I started back of house duties. It’s great and will literally never run. I do need makeup ever clothes to get this stuff off at night because it will stay on FOREVER.

Lips: Burts Bees Lip Crayon. I like these lip crayons because they’re moisturizing and give a little bit of color. Look at all those color options! It’s really lightweight and infused with Shea Butter, Kendi Oil, and Jojoba Oil. The color will last throughout all of your taste testings.

Brow Pencil: Sephora Retractable Brow Pencil Waterproof. This brow pencil will stay on forever! The retractable feature is nice to keep the tip sharp for even application. The brush on the end easily fixes any imperfections.

Hair ties: Remington Anywear Hair for Hair & Wrist Elastics. These hair elastics are perfect because they don’t leave hair dents and will not pull/break hair when you remove them. They can also be worn as a bracelet when you don’t need your hair up. Plus, they won’t leave that weird red ring around your wrist like traditional ouchless hair ties.
